Someone who colleagues and fellow professionals look up to and go to for assistance and guidance and whose positive impact, influence and commitment to excellence has transformed their school’s mathematics program. CHOOSEMATHS MENTORING GIRLS IN MATHEMATICS AWARD
The Mentoring Girls in Mathematics Award recognises one teacher who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in inspiring and fostering the participation of girls in mathematics. The awardee will receive $10,000 prize money to further develop their skills and $10,000 to support their mathematics program in their school.
The judging panel will select the awardee based on their demonstrated capacity to encourage, guide and inspire students by providing ongoing mentoring support.
CHOOSEMATHS OUTSTANDING PRIMARY TEACHER AWARD
The CHOOSEMATHS Outstanding Primary Teacher Award recognises a primary school teacher whose influence and passion has successfully enhanced the experience of learning mathematics for students. The teacher will be a leader in creative and engaging practice, who fosters a positive environment in which students are able to flourish and achieve success.
CHOOSEMATHS OUTSTANDING SECONDARY TEACHER AWARD
The CHOOSEMATHS Outstanding Secondary Teacher Award recognises an exemplary and innovative teacher, who has been instrumental in encouraging students to continue with their study of mathematics. This teacher will be an engaging and passionate communicator of mathematics, who inspires students to see the beauty and importance of mathematics.
CHOOSEMATHS TEACHING EXCELLENCE AWARDS
The CHOOSEMATHS Teaching Excellence Awards will recognise seven of Australia’s leading mathematics teachers who will each receive $1,000 for themselves and $1,000 for their school. The awardees will be selected based on their demonstrated capacity to engage and inspire students using innovative practice, or for providing ongoing mentoring support.
All awards will be presented at the CHOOSEMATHS Awards Ceremony in Melbourne on Friday 7 September 2018.
In addition to the Awards Ceremony, there will be an opportunity for the awardees to meet each other and the CHOOSEMATHS team at a welcome reception and teacher awardee dinner on Thursday 6 September. All awardees will be provided with two nights’ accommodation and all interstate and regional awardees will receive a travel bursary to assist with their travel to Melbourne.
The CHOOSEMATHS Teacher Awards are open to permanent residents of Australia.
Nominees must be currently working in a full time capacity in Australian government or non-government school.
Nominees must either be currently teaching mathematics or leading a mathematics or mentoring program.
NOMINATION AND APPLICATION
Anyone can nominate an eligible teacher using the nomination form. Teachers, themselves, may also initiate the application process. However, each nomination needs to be supported by an endorsement from the candidate’s School Principal on the form provided.
The completed nomination form and supporting documentation is to be forwarded to the CHOOSEMATHS Awards Project Officer via email or post.
SELECTION CRITERIA AND JUDGING
The judging panel will select the awardees based on their demonstrated capacity to engage and inspire students or by providing ongoing mentoring support.
The following are examples of the types of qualities that might be demonstrated by a successful applicant. They are not meant to be exhaustive.
Applications open Thursday 1 March 2018. Applications must be submitted to AMSI by Friday 6 July 2018. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by Skype during the week commencing Monday 23 July. Any second round interviews will take place in the following week.
